֭Ƶ education students Kathryn Riley and Hope Wiggs took part in the Oklahoma Early Childhood Coalition Conference last week in Oklahoma City.
The conference, hosted by the Potts Family Foundation, focused on programs for families with children birth to age five and featured experts in literacy and numeracy, family support, preventative health care and high quality child care.
Riley said she appreciated the opportunity to meet with advocates for early childhood education in Oklahoma.
“I had a chance to meet people who have some power and want to see changes in early childhood education just as I do,” she said. “It was nice to meet teachers that had similar views on education and to hear stories about their classrooms.”
Wiggs said the experience gave her hope for the future of education in Oklahoma.
“We often only hear the negative aspects of education, but this conference had breakout sessions about different organizations that are working diligently toward improving early childhood education in our state.”
ReadyNation Deputy Director Nancy Fishman gave the keynote speech and moderated a legislative panel that included state Sens. David Holt and AJ Griffin and state Reps. Cyndi Munson and George Young.
