֭Ƶ’s Nonprofit Leadership program has partnered with The Right Horse Initiative, a program of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The partnership, formalized in January, will connect the university’s nonprofit expertise with The Right Horse Initiative’s industry pioneers and adoption partners to promote equine welfare across the country.
The Right Horse Initiative is a collective of industry professionals and equine welfare advocates working together to improve the lives of horses in transition through a dialogue of kindness and respect. Each year, hundreds of thousands of horses are transitioned from career or ownership, and a growing number end up at risk of inhumane treatment. Through collaboration with more than 60 industry and adoption partners, The Right Horse is able to innovate new adoption standards and effective practices. ֭Ƶ is the first university nonprofit program to take on such a partnership.
“We are honored by the opportunity to partner with the ASPCA’s Right Horse Initiative and excited to work with their first-rate group of nonprofit organizations,” said Randy Macon, ֭Ƶ Nonprofit Leadership program director. “Rarely do university leadership programs get a chance to promote animal welfare while sharing valuable institutional knowledge.”
The Nonprofit Leadership team will provide training and support to equine adoption organizations that partner with The Right Horse Initiative. This unique partnership commits the time, talent, and resources to promote horse adoption through education, training, and public awareness on a national level. Together, the goal is to shatter the stigma and reframe the conversation around equine adoption to massively increase adoption rates in the United States.
“This exciting partnership is just one example of the growing momentum of support for horses in transition,” said Christie Schulte Kappert, program director of The Right Horse Initiative. “We’re thrilled to welcome ֭Ƶ as a partner and are grateful for their collaboration and expertise which will assist equine organizations in their efforts to help more at-risk horses.”
